Any user email is getting resolved

In my SharePoint applicatio, I have configured external user. Hence from my application, I can provide access to external user through their mail id. Now I have observed that when I try to search any user by using mail id from People Picker , it always shows result. If I use any random email id (anything like xyz@def.tyu) then also it is getting resolved. Not sure why is it happing

Anyone have any knowldge about this

Hi lftikar,

Are you using SharePoint 2010 or SharePoint Online?

How did you configure external user in your SharePoint?

If you configure an external domain in your SharePoint farm, all email ids from the external domain would be solved in People picker.

In SharePoint Online, if you enable external users for a site collection, to have permissions on a site collection, the external user need to accept the sharing invitations and login the site collection. If the sharing email id is not existing, there is no logon for the email id, so, SharePoint online will not grant the email id permissions.
