Question

Hi,

according to this link it is now possible to use Windows notification service in Windows phone 8.1 (Silverlight). That i have a LOB app, i not found any clear information if this is also possible with a LOB-App, which is not distributed through the store and is signed by a symantec certificate.

Does anybody know if i can use WNS with a windows phone silverlight 8.1 app whitout associating it to the store?

When we are by topic: I know that the new Phone Store Apps (Windows Runtime) cannot use WNS when the .appx packages are signed with a symantec certificate (according to this video, 37:45). I really not understand why full push notification services (WNS) for LOB-Apps are not really supported, someone may have some ideas? Because for me now is the question silverlight 8.1 or runtime 8.1, and push notifications are one the main point the desicion depends from it.

Thanks

Push notifications require a Channel URI to be opened and to do that you need a PFN (registered in the store) so the device can be identified be the push service.

Hi Peter,

Have you considered Targeted Distribution?  This is what others use in your situation: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsphone/help/jj619160(v=vs.105).aspx

Hi Jeff

Yes i already considered this as a solution, unfortunately my customer want to keep the app company-internal and not want to go through the certification processes of the store. We also considered deploying the app with Beta status (so without certification processes), but thats also not a good solution due limited beta accounts.

Thanks for your responses, now i have confirmation.
