Email alert when a backup job is failed?

Category: azure backup

hello, I have configured a Backup to Azure restore service vault through the agent. I am doing a backup of Files and Folders. I have also configured the email alerts for every single alert. If i go to Monitoring and reportds > Jobs > Backup Jobs I can see a task failed (But I haven't received any email). If I go to Monitoring and Reportds > Backup Alerts > I don't see any alert. Is it possible to configure and receive an email when a task is failed?

Only alerts will be send via e-mail so in your case because you do not have alerts you are not receiving e-mails.

You can configure alerts for jobs as well. One option is to forward Backup reports data to OMS and use OMS alerts to e-mail on failed job. I've touched briefly on this subject in my blog post here:

Two additional docs about Backup reports:

Second option is to use Azure Alerts. Every Vault has activity log and in it you can see failed operation. In the example below I have failed Backup operation. I can create Activity log alert as shown. Next time an operation fails in my vault I will have e-mail send.

More on Activity alerts:

The advantage of OMS is that you can have all the data at one place and create more granular alerts.

In addition to Stanislav.

Q.2 When a backup job fails, how long does it take to raise an alert?

A.2 An alert is raised within 20 mins of the Azure backup failure.

As per new monitoring and alerting feature, job status and updates on job won’t be alerted on as well as user cancelled jobs won’t trigger the alerts.

Alert notification will be sent out only for job which has failed (not user cancelled) or completed with warning.

I am not sure Alerts work for backup and restore of Azure VMs. Last time I've tested alerts were working only for MAB protected servers.

You can configure the alerts for Azure VMs as well. Refer the below link for more information.
