Create external data source from one Azure SQL data base to another

Hi I'm new to this so please bear with me.

I have 2 databases MSRS and STBook.  I would like to set-up an external datasource in STBook so I can run queries in STBook that pulls data from MSRS.

Ideally a step by step instruction from start to finish including database security set-up would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in Advance

Hi Rel.P,

As far as I know, Linked server for Azure SQL Database is not supported. Instead we could use the Azure SQL Database elastic query which allows us to perform cross-database queries to access remote tables, and to connect Microsoft and third party tools (Excel, PowerBI, Tableau, etc.) to query across data tiers with multiple databases. For more information, please refer to: Azure SQL Database elastic query overview (preview)

For Elastic Database query scenarios, the external source is either a shard map manager (on Azure SQL Database), or a remote database (on Azure SQL Database). Please check the example: CREATE EXTERNAL DATA SOURCE (Transact-SQL)

Or you could refer to this article: Setting up Cross Database Queries in Azure SQL Database

Check if this helps.
