Hi, i tried to active the SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure at top site ( go to Top Site Collection ) and deactivate after a few moment. When i go to a SharePoint Team site, click on Follow icon to follow a site or to follow a document, both give me an error such as 'Something went wrong' Sorry. we couldn't follow the site' & 'Sorry, we couldn't follow the document'.

Will activate & deactivate the above mentioned feature actually causing the error to occur? Please advise. THKS.

Hello

Whether to follow the site or document is dependency on User Profile Service.

Please go to User Profile Service Application, click " Manage user Permissions" and grant the specified user with follow permission.

Best Regards

Hi, thks for the reply.

1) I've checked. The 'Following Content' is enabled.

I was given a permission to go to Top Site Collection and able to see Site Features >  SharePoint Server Publishing Infrastructure.

Still not sure whether activate and deactivate the feature is the root cause for the error that occurred when people try to Follow a site or a document.

Hi PSAPPHIRE88,

The account is User Profile Synchronization Service's account. To find out under which account it is running, go to central admin > configure service accounts and then choose "Windows Service - User Profile Synchronization Service.

Please grant spdataacces permission to that account.

And you can try to install the latest CU.

In addition, please check ULS logs to find details.

Best Regards,

CY

Hello

Since “Publishing Feature” Provides centralized libraries, content types, master pages and page layouts and enables page scheduling and other publishing functionality for a site collection, it is not root cause for your issue.

Best Regards
