I'm trying to create a column master key (for MSSQL always encrypted) in my Azure key vault using SSMS 2016 RC and when I try to connect using my azure account, it gives me this error:

We experienced issues in connecting to Azure: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. (SqlManagerUI)

It seems to try and connect, temporarily showing my azure subscription in a combo box for me to select, but then that combobox disappears and I get the above error message. I'm able to connect just fine using powershell. Not sure how to proceed from here.

I'm sure this is too late to help you, but for anyone else who finds this I was having the exact same symptoms and was able to resolve it. Instead of using SSMS I used Power Shell and the script provided in this answer:

It was a suggestion from Azure support. Hopefully this helps somebody else...
