the unreliability of virtual machines is causing me to seriously consider going back to vm roles. i'm trying to determine if the constant lock-ups and loss of rdp access in virtual machines is also affecting the paas side as well.

if you are currently using vm roles, have you had any issues like the ones reported here?

Based on my experience, I haven't seen such issues with either VM Role or virtual machine. VM Role is still supported. It has the advantage as you can scale up and down by simply modifying the instance count. With virtual machine, it is needed to manually work with load balance endpoints. The disadvantage of VM Role is the disk is not persisted, and it's difficult to join a virtual network.

If you have any issues with virtual machine, please post on the link you provided. IT support will help to look at it.  And we appreciate any feedbacks from you. That  will help to improve our products. Thanks.

yes, i'm well aware of the differences between the two. :)

what data center are you using for your vms (i.e. not vm roles)?
