Question

After renaming a Git project located on a VSO server and trying to create a new project with that name, VSO gave me an error stating "The Team Project name XXX was previously used and there are still TFVC workspaces referring to this name."

I was able to delete 3 of the 4 workspaces using the command:

tf workspace /delete /collection:https://url_to_vso.com/DefaultCollection "workspacename;workspaceowner"

Unfortunately, it's impossible to delete the 4th workspace. Using the same command, I get the error message: "TF14061: The workspace NAME;OWNER does not exist."
However, VSO still states that this workspace exists when trying to create the project. Also, I see the workspace in TF Sidekick. When trying to delete the workspace via TF Sidekick, I receive the exact same error message. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the local machine anymore.

Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Greetings!

Edit:
When issuing the command

tf workspaces /owner:* /collection:https://url_to_vso.com/DefaultCollection

I can actually see that the workspace exists. I think that the issue might be related to, that the windows live ID of the owner doesn't exists anymore (at least it seems so). When trying to create a new workspace with the same name, I get an error message stating: "TF1405: The identity Windows Live ID\name@hotmail.com is not a recognized identity".

Hi Registred,

Greetings.

Is this project is entirely Git or Git with TFVC?

Asha

Hi Asha,

thanks for your effort!

I'm not sure if I understand the difference correctly. It is a git project that was setup using VSO (choosing Git as the version control system). I use the Visual Studio Git integration as client. Greetings, Georg

Hi,

Greetings.

Looks like you doesn't have access to the workplace.

A Project Collection administrator can override this and give themselves permission to delete other workspaces by going into Security settings for the collection (highlighted below).

Hope it helps.

Regards,

Asha

Hi Asha,

thanks for your suggestion! The setting "Administer workspaces" for the group "Project Collection Administrators" was already set to 'Allow'. I made sure that my account was a member of the Project Collection Administrators.

However, the problem still persists. If required, I can send you screenshots of my collection settings.

Greetings,
Georg
