How do I monitor data transfer metrics from the new Azure portal?

I've been through just about every setting but there doesn't seem to be a metric I can monitor for Data Transfer In/Out. As I'm being charged for Data Transfer Out (Egress) I would have thought that it would have been one of the most obvious things to monitor. How do I monitor this in a tile on the dashboard? This is for the new portal not the classic one.

Thank you for posting here!

If you are referring to monitoring Egress metrics for example a VM you can do it by following the below steps:

1- Start your VM if it is not already running. Make sure monitoring is enabled for your VM.

2- On the right hand side you will be able to see CPU Usage Metrics under which there is a banner that says Add a Section.

3- Once you click on this you will be able to see customization pane on the left hand side of the portal which says Tiles Gallery.

4- Under the Resources box click on See related resources. It will have tiles for Total Egress. You can enable the suitable type based on the type of storage account you are using (Files, Blobs, Tables etc.).

5- Once done click on Done Customizing on the top of the page. You will then be able to see the tile in your Tiles section fro your VM.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks but no it isn't helpful. I want to monitor the network data transfer I'm being charged for (egress) from the new portal. This link doesn't say anything about that.

Hello Colin,

Apologies for the delay in response.

If you have a Virtual Gateway setup on your subscription for any deployment you can check the Data In and Data Out for that Virtual Gateway by going to Browse > Virtual Network Gateways > Choose the gateway in consideration > Connection > Choose the connection that is currently active for the gateway in question.

However, if you want a way to monitor the Data Egress when there is no VPN gateway connected and only the data in and out for your instances then kindly give me some time since I need to get in touch with the product team and get back to you.

Appreciate your patience.

If you're in then go to Subsciptions, click on your subscription, scroll down to Costs by Service and click on it. You can search for "data transfer" and you will see the below for different zones. Example: Data Transfer Out (GB) Data Transfer In (GB)
