The Forum keeps signing me Out ???

Question

tommytwotrain on Fri, 29 Apr 2016 22:10:42

Seems every few hours now the forum is signing us out.

I was just making an edit and the system signed me out and I could not save the edit. I had to cancel, sign in and do it again. I lost my first edit of course.

Been happening to me for a few days now on and off. Thought it was my internet connection.

Although yesterday or the day before MSDN links for classes and such were not responding on and off too.

Update: I just got signed off a minute ago at 4:20 or so responding in Wingers thread.

I find this interesting in that at work this never happens while at home it's doing this on and off and I am on many other forums where this never happens so it's not a connection thing but have to assume there is an issue with backend security tokens.

It has been happening to me for a few months now.  It is a PAIN  IN MY A**!!!!   As you said,  it can happen right in the middle of you replying to someone and then when you press Submit,  Blamo!!!  you have to click Sign In again.  It even happens to me when i am just signed in an refreshing the page once and a while to see what`s new.  Then when you press the Reply button,  Blamo!!! you have to sign in again.

Yes it seems to have gotten worse the last few days. It was like once a day. But today it seems like hours. And yes this was the first time I realized it signed me out during an edit so I lost my work.

I am on win 7 home premium 64 I think.

I suspect it is a Microsoft Forum thing?

PS ie 11 browser.

@ Tom,

Yes,  i believe it is a website thing.  I don`t see it having anything to do with the browser or OS that is used.  I am on Win7 32bit using Firefox.  I notice it do this quite often but,  as Karen said,  it never happens on any other forums i am signed into.   8)

I love it when Microsoft says they can't reproduce the problem.  Maybe they should all take a few weeks and work from home, no VPN, and see if they really like their creation.

LOL.

Maybe Karen is on to something about the network? That's why Microsoft does not see it?

It is not just the VB forum.  I asked one of the moderators of the WPF forum the same question about a week ago.  His reply is :

You can email

They are an outsourced company that has the power to fix some things but will escalate to other teams.

I've not had the email problem but my log-in will probably time out whilst I write this.

That's a recent and annoying feature.

I'm a partner but that doesn't appear on my profile and fissues don't seem to be able to fix that.

Well, fissues just wrote back and said they are escalating the problem.

I ran WireShark for about two hours last night but of course never got logged off during that time. Probably have to wait till Monday when MSDN is busier.

I did see issues on Wednesday and Thursday where not only was I getting kicked off the login but MSDN would return information not found and such for search result links in Google.

And then there's server errors too where a link is clicked on for a thread or something and the MSDN server errors out for some reason and immediately after that it allows the link to be accessed if you try again.

Devon_Nullman on Sat, 30 Apr 2016 13:16:00

Every time I first open the main page I am not logged in. If I see a thread and want to post a comment, I click on Reply or Quote and the page reloads but I am logged in and can then post a comment. I also get pretty frequent "Unexpected Error" messages, enough that I compose replies in a text editor and paste them here. The "Unexpected Error" is only resolved by closing the Browser, or waiting a while.

Mr. Monkeyboy on Sat, 30 Apr 2016 13:37:22

I don't know if this really means anything however a Microsoft account user I suppose has something called a CID which looks like cid-[user's CID here].users.storage.live.com (don't display your users CID in a forum if you find it I believe).

Anyhow according to this link Microsoft sites expose visitors’ profile info in plain text "A unique identifier called a CID is exposed because it's sent as part of a Domain Name Service lookup for the address of the storage server containing profile data and as part of the initiation of an encrypted connection. As a result, it could be used to track users when they connect to services from both computers and mobile devices, possibly even identifying users as their requests leave the Tor anonymizing network.

In a lab test, Ars confirmed the leak, first publicized this weekend by a blogger based in Beijing. Packet captures of connections to Outlook.com, the Windows account page, and OneDrive.com revealed DNS lookup requests for a host with the format cid-[user's CID here].users.storage.live.com.The CID is also embedded in the Server Name Indication (SNI) extension data exchanged during the Transport Layer Security "handshake" that secures the session to the services, as Ars confirmed in an inspection of the packets.".

So I had launched Event Viewer looking for issues that may be occuring in some fashion prior to reading that article at the link. In EV I did see some Warnings of event type 1014, DNS Client Events "Name resolution for the name cid-SomeHexHere.users.storage.live.com timed out after none of the configured DNS servers responded.". And since I didn't know what a CID was I did a search on google for cid-SomeHexHere.users.storage.live.com with my actual CID where SomeHexHere goes and found that article.

I don't know if during a TLS1.2 handshake for an HTTPS connection with MSDN where you are logged on if this DNS Client Event occured that perhaps the HTTPS connection would drop. I don't know enough about this really.

Anyhow I seem to get alot of these DNS Client Events for my CID. There's other 1014 events for my DNS Client for other things too but not nearly as many.

So I cleared all the logs in Event Viewer and if I get kicked off again I will see if any Events occured around that time for any logs.

If  I have two browsers launched and am logged into MSDN in one, kill that one, and before killing the other one go back to MSDN I am normally still logged in. If I kill all my browsers though I have my settings set to delete everything (cookies, whatever) and if I then launch a browser and go to MSDN I am no longer logged on. I don't know if that's a cookie thing or what.

I've been logged out twice today and several times yesterday.  If they in fact are working on it they are not doing a good job since a couple of times when posting a solution after typing the whole thing in I am met with a "Unexpected Error" and my typing is for naught.

Not very impressed.

@Devon_Nullman i am familiar with this error too, if that occurs i copy the text i have entered and press the reload button to reload the page, afterwards i need to press respond twice (the first respond reload the page...) the second respond opens the textbox and i can paste the copied text and it works if i press submit

IronRazerz on Wed, 04 May 2016 20:50:46

I had it sign me out several times in a few hours yesterday and i did not even really post anything yesterday.

Apparently i don`t seem to have the same problem as some of you when posting.  It does sign me out in the middle of posting but,  it usually gives me the unexpected error and leaves my post in tact.  Then i can just copy it,  sign back in,  and then paste it back into a reply.

It is a PITA still but,  i have not had it erase or clear my post when that happens in the middle of posting.  I can always copy it and paste it back in after signing back in.   8)

Sounds like some contributors possibly are/where losing un-posted content. One way around this is to write the reply, press the HTML button, copy the HTML then close the window and post. If the post fails reverse the process.

Even if you have images they will be restored.

I know this because this is not the first time since I have been here it's happened.

I voted that up. But your still at 105,521. I don't figure copying/pasting HTML will have any affect on that though.

I see the copy/paste as a Band-Aid or duct tape on the proverbial hole in the dike :-(

Since this all happened before one would think there was a solution to this dilemma but that seems not to be the case.

The solution is probably buried in a 250 GB after action report database or something. And nobody knows what keywords/terms/sentences to use to retrieve the various after action reports there probably are for the problems occuring which have probably occured alot of times.

Plus all the people that resolved all of the problems were probably immediately transferred to new positions since it was determined their technical expertise was necessary elsewhere. And given pay raises. And stay off forums so they don't have to go back to help since their new job is more interesting than troubleshooting forums issues.

Or not.

Cyrille,

Nothing strange that you thought that. That is my idea about how the forum management is as well reacting in all kind of long time contributors complaints which are not what they want to see.

However, that is beginners behavior. I had set you on a higher level.

John (mr. Monkeyboy) had already a statement like mine in this thread.
To add to that one. A management becomes often in a new job and want to do something new what is not yet done. They seldom invest if that has failed already 10 times before but think that those who complain are just what you call crybabies.

Don't worry about that.

Everytime I post anything I immediately report my own posts as abusive.

That way I figure the moderators get tired of looking at them so if anybody reports my posts as abusive, and they really are, then it's like crying wolf and nobody does anything.

LOL.

I did check in on the MS Underground WebSite. The MS leakers there said pretty soon you will have to attach a DNA testing dongle to your PC so MS can verify if you are really you against a One World Order worldwide DNA database being built somewhere but the MS Undergrounders don't know where yet.

They also said there's rumors of MS creating a cloning lab such that any DNA results they receive they can choose all the smart ones DNA, clone them and since MS would own the clones as clones are property then MS will one by one replace all their employees with clones so they don't have to pay employees anymore. The clones are supposedly going to be genetically altered so they can survive drinking water and eating apples (as an insult to MS's major competitor) only.

Bill Gates will be cloned whenever he passes away so he can continue to run MS forever. He will not be genetically altered to only eat apples though since in the future he will be expected to first buy his own presidential election campaign and become president then at some future date after that he will become the world ruler.

Yes I heard that too.

In fact I figure I still have some of Bill's DNA on me since we had lunch together in the summer of 1975 on the steps of the UNM engr school. You know Microsoft started here right? He was wearing green fatigue.

And I remember loosing my evening drinks in the gutter in front of the motel he lived in on Route 66(student ghetto area) and so I figure he must have used the same gutter and some more DNA must have rubbed off on to me there.

Tommy,

Don't write like that. You are respected by most of us contributors and I think also the lurkers (nothing wrong with those) to admire you on the rights of your own.

You don't need the DNA of Bill Gates which seems to be 80% $, and for the rest $.

Although if it was his own I admire the vision he had for the future in past.

Shhhh... I haven't been logged off today Razerz. Maybe your hat is working after all. Or maybe you took it off to comb your hair causing Cyrille to get logged off.

It also could be that your hat is interfering with MS fixing everything since dbasnett received an email advising that MS had fixed everything. But nooooo, ol Razerz had to go messing with his hat! :)

Probably later though since according to dbasnetts post MS believes everything is A.O.K.

Hi,

in my case is even more weird. It records some points when getting an answer, but dont do so on other answers... Yesterday I answerd a question in the c# forum which should have added 20 points that were not added, today I answered a question in the c# forum for 15 points that actually have been added...

Update: Whoever voted this up (thanks btw :-)) - this again was counted in my points...

@Devon_Nullman i am familiar with this error too, if that occurs i copy the text i have entered and press the reload button to reload the page, afterwards i need to press respond twice (the first respond reload the page...) the second respond opens the textbox and i can paste the copied text and it works if i press submit

I get this too.

I copy the text, sign out, then sign back in, reply and paste the text.  Seems to work every time without any extra funkiness.  Other times when I hit submit, the busy icon whirls for a moment and then the edit window just stays open.  I do the same logout-login fix for that one as well.

The Edge browser will copy the content with formatting so I don't need to switch to the HTML view first; just copy and paste the actual contents of the edit window.  Your browser might work that way as well (worth testing to avoid the extra steps since we have to do this often).

Not if you avoid violating the Code of Conduct.  If you don't call people names, ridicule their grammar/English, or make statements with no purpose but to incite an angry reply then moderators won't have any reason to delete your posts or report your behavior.  Even though "be nice" is on the rule list, you only get moderated on posts with the aforementioned issues.  Even here, where your post borders on stalking (it has no relation to this thread) I hesitate to perform the proper moderation because I fear you'll take it as a personal attack and lash back with something worse.

So I'm not going to get into a delete-war with you.  And I'm not going to follow you around and report your posts as abusive.  I'm going to make an attempt to work with you.  Will you please find a way to word your posts such that you do not break the above rules?  And when you come across a thread you find ridiculous, can you please simply move on without replying?

Reed Kimble - "When you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all"

That's funny cause you don't tell the people that initiated this anything. In fact I've noted that you respond to them by making it seem like I initiated things.

Now you fear that I am stalking you by posting that link in this thread. I didn't see any intent at anything in that post other than to say I would be signed off more often now probably.

I'm not really interested in your personal opinion on alot of things since you seem to truly believe yours is the only opinion that counts ever. On the other hand I will attempt to not break the rules.

And unless I ask a question about something please don't follow me around telling me to alter my code which I provide in replies. If you want to alter it by all means alter it, place the altered code in your own post and be done with it. Thanks.

Also I didn't call the idiot in the thread any names. And I didn't ridicule its english I told the idiot that its english is fairly poor which is accurate if you read all the posts the idiot posted. So your opinion about various things is inaccurate as far as I'm concerned. And I told the idiot it had abilities lesser than a french codfish but I never called the idiot any names. Therefore you seem to embellish your opinions with false information like a politician would do IMO for whatever reason that may be. And this is about the thread in question.

Mr. Monkeyboy.

Reed gives the idea that he represent Microsoft. He does not and therefore he does direct violate the code of conduct.

By the way, I see that you in the short while passed Reed in points which he gathered being active since the beginning in the forums.  I think that it tells enough about the appreciation of your both in the forums.

I've not seen you for more than 2 years in any way violate the code of conduct like Reed now does by telling you did and therefore gives a false expression about you.

Therefore I've marked his message to you as abusive.

Just to bring back Joy to this Thread.... Has anyone thougth about an App/Service/Something to make a record of when one's being logged out of the Forum?

Wondering if by checking if one's logged in if that would prevent being logged out.

Also, I noticed that after my PC being in Sleep for an hour or so and bringing it back on I was still logged in...

Cor Ligthert on Fri, 13 May 2016 10:38:05

Cyrille,

I log every time off now, and then the problem is not anymore. But that was already written in one of the threads of this problem. I don't know if Microsoft ever did something with it. I assume they did because then it is a problem from the general Login system and therefore the message "escalating (to other departments)".

As long as we are talking about the rules, is it ok to ask for beta testers on the forum? I need to test a new application.

I don't think so Tommy as it is about beta testers. Every kind of applications for jobs (paid or non paid) is prohibited.

However, you are clever, with this question you did it in fact already :-) and your address is visible in your profile.

Hi,

I also have not seen any violation of the code of conduct by the person who adds "La vida loca" to his posts (I dont use a name here, since this could be seen as a violation ;-) ). Instead I think, he puts some life to this forum, by being present and friendly and having humor and giving really good suggestions and answers to the questions posted.

 @ All,

I saw someone post that the "captcha" was pretty annoying yesterday when they where posting.  I have not seen a captcha box on here before but,  i wonder if they have added a captcha for new members to post or something.  If so,  that is probably one part where they have things all screwed up with the posting problems.

They better not start popping up a captcha for me or i will just say the heck with this forum.  It is getting annoying enough trying to post without one of those too.  8/

Its starting to feel like the entire internet is under constant attack. The last few weeks it has gotten more and more goofy.

I suspect something and we are not being told?

And my windows pc's just keep acting goofier and goofier.

Things that worked yesterday seem to break in the middle of the night.

Seems everything I do lately hits a something and nobody seems to know anything.

Wont be long before we cant use any of it I guess and will have to disconnect and go outside.

Glad I was not born with a phone in my hand. I bet the withdrawal will be bad.

Maybe this is all due to North Koreas missile test being cancelled due to issues with Win8 in Apr 2013 or so and Kim still aint happy bout it so MS/Internet suffering.

Although Microsoft may have accomodated NK's new time zone in 2015 by providing a patch or update so everybodies systems would accomodate the NK leaders request even without your permission so maybe Kim be happy and is not doing anything to MS/Internet.

I know since I removed VS 2015 Preview (which didn't seem to work very well) from my system I can use explorer and open a folder like

"Program Files (x86)" and explorer will say the folder is empty. And of course if I re-select the folder all files and subfolders in it will magically appear. I'm not certain if that is causing issues.

I couldn't install .Net 4.5.2 the other day no matter what I tried as resolution from numerous searches on the net.

And I constantly get kicked off login though I haven't seen a captcha yet. I did run wireshark a few times but nothing noticable occured regarding the login kickoffs that I could tell.

I can't wait to get a Win10 system only to see it get trashed by the OS creators updates, software or whatever over time.

oh, Win 10 already has problems with programs and updates. The explorer is unstable and freezes with (task-)restart at least once a day when working fast and copying eg large project folders for backup and after the last winUpdate my system didnt stay in energysave modus, always did go to sleep and woke up some minuties after... The settings for Energyptions were screwedup/resetted (mainy the timer to wake up was changed to being active...)

Maybe the auto logout is being detected as a positive user experience by various Windows OS's sending whatever info they scrape from users systems to MS/Akamai therefore the status of the forums based on data being processed by MS. :/

Now that I temporarily have to pay for data I've disabled anything I can which seems to use internet access without my authorization including MS updates which would use up all my monthly data within minutes of running it probably. Maybe this is why I get auto logged off. Perhaps MS detects you aren't allowing them and Akamai to use your bandwidth at their discretion so there could be a boolean value somewhere set to log out users doing that. Who knows really.

Can't wait to get Win10 as it sounds better n better everytime I read about it.

MS should probably provide lifetime free PC Mechanic or something similar which actually has the ability to fix issues with system not caused by users. After all I never install/deinstall software that isn't certified except some of my own which doesn't alter the registry on its own although the installer does but I suspect the deinstallation of it would remove whatever was altered when deinstalled.

Then you should learn how to trim your quotes.  That's what's eating up your allowance.

The "allowance" is for my use. Not some OS or any other non-me entity to use at its discretion from my system.

Even if I wasn't paying for data nothing on my system other than me should be using my bandwidth without me knowing it. I know that's a difficult concept for some reason for alot of programmers and the companies that hire them. You can't make money if you don't scrape users systems for any data you can sell by tracking users browsing, sending popups, displaying so much ads on websites, etc. In a greed based society this will always occur.

But I suppose responding to you wouldn't waste too much "allowance" although it's usually a waste.

Update: On another note the auto logoff feature has been found to be reproducable and supposedly MS will have it fixed next week or so possibly. Supposedly some cookie is being destroyed when logged on and also browsing another MSDN or Technet location that uses logon or something similar or not.
