Is it mandatory to make IE11 in compatibility mode in order to get better results from SP2013 sites? As per this article http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/33937.internet-explorer-11-compatibility-fixes-for-sharepoint-2013.aspx some of the features (Edit Page, Calendar View) are not going to work without compatibility mode. Is there any "server side" solution, such as hotfix or something like that?

Hi Justin- yes, you need to run it in compatibility mode. There isn't another "fix" as far as I know.

Using compatibility mode will fix most(not all) IE11 compatibility issues. Thus, I suggest you add SharePoint sites in trusted sites and run it in compatibility mode.
