Question

I added a synonym to my database.

When I am management studio, and design a query I click the synonym tab, and it's blank.
Is there a way to get my synonyms to show up?

Assure that the synonym was created in the correct database.  You cando this using t-sql:

USE DATASENAME
SELECT *
FROM sys.synonyms

If it still does not show up then within SSMS right click the Synonyms folder and choose Refresh.

Hope this helps

I did the same thing what you are trying to do and I can see the Synonym in Query Designer. Obviously you are missing something.

Try this:

use PartsTrakStaging
go

select * from dbo.p
select * from dbo.pl
select * from dbo.psales
select * from dbo.pstatus

Do you see any data back?

And in the Query designer, do you see tables/views etc?

Well, this is a known bug:

As a workaround use the Sql pane to add the object manually, it should appear on the designer then.

Yes I get data back just fine.

I had to modify the pl synonym cause I did it wrong, but yea it works as far as getting data back.

But the synonyms tab (list of synonmys is still blank) It doesn't list them.

So they didn't fix this in 2008 either?

Hello,

It seems that this bug is always existing in SQL Server 2012
