Hi All

What are the advantages and disadvantages if I set to lower or higher the value of "Application Consistent Snapshot Frequency", is there any effect on the performance on my virtual machine? is there any effect on the storages, bandwidth, my credits on azure? What type of VM and Application do I need to use Application Consistent Snapshot? SQL? Active Directory? etc...

Greetings!

Thank you for posting here!

Application-consistent snapshots use Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to ensure that applications are in a consistent state when the snapshot is taken. Note that if you enable application-consistent snapshots, it will affect the performance of applications running on source virtual machines. Ensure that the value you set is less than the number of additional recovery points you configure.

Site Recovery can replicate any app running on a supported virtual machine (Hyper-V VMs and VMware VMs), apparently you should be able to use Application Consistent Snapshot for all the workloads that ASR supports; based on your requirement of the application/environment. Kindly check the supported workloads here.

Site Recovery contributes to application-level protection: Integration with SQL Server AlwaysOn, and partnership with other application-level replication technologies, including AD replication, SQL AlwaysOn, Exchange Database Availability Groups (DAGs) and Oracle Data Guard.

Hope this helps!

Regards,
Ajay
