In some instances we have multiple subfolders within a folder that we need to share a common piece of Metadata. What is the easiest way to tag all documents (mostly PDF) within a subfolder without opening each in datasheet view and dragging the metadata down.
In our case we have 500+ folders contained in 10 top level folder, and all the metadata in one of the top level folders will cascade down throughout all subfolders within. So I can hopefully accomplish this task by cascading 10 pieces of metadata down, instead of opening and tagging 500 folders.
Thanks in advance!

One of the option is to write PowerShell script.

Take a look at the functionality of Column Default Value Settings in List Settings, you can set default values for columns at folder level so that any new document in the folder can inherit the metadata.

That's great, thanks. We were hoping to use this in conjunction with other tactics, as we have multiple pieces of metadata to tag.
Great for single columns though!
