Regular expression support is fairly limited in MSSQL compared to other providers (e.g. Oracle, MySQL). To get round this I create C# based CLRs but it would be more convenient if the full Regex functionality was directly available in SQL Server. Maybe Microsoft
could add it in the next version of SQL Server 201(5)..?!

You can submit a proposal at Connect:
For success it is important that you start a campaign for UP votes.
Post the Connect link here for reference. Thanks.

There already is a connect item for that. Go to https://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/261342/regex-functionality-in-pattern-matching. Go there and vote for it. Current vote (as of 8:43 EST Mar 2, 2013) is 253 Yes, 0 No. The more Yes votes we get, the sooner we will see this in SQL Server.

Nice vote count, but.... it is sitting there 6 years!

Yes, Microsoft is certainly taking their time with this one. But at least they've left open (active), so there is still hope.

For those of you Master Data Services then it is already there.
